Meditation Classes

Meditation –

“A systematic mental training for reducing suffering and developing a sustainable healthy mind” – David Varco

Just as there are numerous different definitions of meditation (the above being one of my personal favourites), there are also many different types and methods of meditation – guided, walking, focus, mindful, mantra, breath, silent, etc – there really is something for everyone. Meditation offers so many benefits and when used in conjunction with pranayama, mudra, and yoga the results can be substantially magnified!

At Eastern Hope Yoga we specialise in custom meditations, either specific to certain circumstances – such as for people with chronic pain, insomniacs, or day traders – or personalised to individual clients’ needs. Our specialised packages include sessions of different lengths and a range of styles, and once purchased are yours to use as often as you need.

Some specific styles of meditation that I personally enjoy and find helpful are –

  • Mantra meditation
  • Tantra meditation
  • Yoga Nidra ….

… but we’re all different. I truly believe that there’s something out there for all of us and I’d love to be a part of your journey to finding your own style!

Coming soon – an explanation of the features of, and differences between, the most commonly used meditation styles and techniques.

iRest Yoga Nidra Meditation

Nothing I could say about iRest could beat this comment from Frank, a combat veteran, who said:

“Through yogic meditation, I now experience an unchanging peace that’s within me. I feel like a samurai warrior who knows the secret of who I truly am. Originally at the mercy of my PTSD, I now have the inner resource of well-being that helps me respond, rather than react, when old memories resurface. I believe that meditation saves my life every day.”

iRest is a meditation practice based on the ancient tradition of Yoga Nidra (yogic sleep) and adapted to suit the conditions of modern life. Originally devised in conjunction with the US military to help both serving members and veterans, iRest combines traditional yogic meditation practices with Western psychology and neuroscience, and has been shown time and again to be effective in scientific trials for conditions including chronic pain, sleep problems, depression and anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). A beautiful practice of self-discovery and self-acceptance that can be experienced in a class environment, as a personal practice, or on a one-to-one basis.

The one-to-one iRest sessions can be an invaluable tool for cultivating a clear understanding of our emotions and underlying belief systems, and in developing the tools to prevent them from controlling our actions and reactions. It’s an ideal resource for anyone whose lack of emotional understanding and self-regulation poses an obstacle – a very common, and very expensive, issue for novice and intermediate day traders.
