Pose Guide – Chronic Pain

The purpose of these photos is not for you to copy the shapes of the posture. In aesthetic yoga we use our body to get into the pose, but that isn’t the aim here (unless on top of managing pain you also have an ambition to be able to sit with both legs wrapped behind your head ????).

Our bodies are all different, and that doesn’t just mean different fitness levels or flexibility. Our bones are not all the same length, our joints have different potential ranges of motion.

What we’re doing is using the poses to get into our body. We want to replicate the feel of the pose rather than the shape. To feel a stretch in a certain place; to feel a constriction, or a twist. The pictures are suggestions of a place to start, based on averages of anatomical measurements, and suggestions of different variations of the poses to give you a better chance of finding the one that’s right for your body, your goals, and your unique combination of strengths and challenges.
